Blog 365 ~ Independence Day 5K Re-Cap

Another EarlyThirtyAM Saturday morning. Headed out to get these awesome race shirts done by 10th Planet to the Independence Day 5K packet pick-up. My team RaceRise is doing the timing and I'm doing their race photography for them again. I Love getting to do return race events...

The morning started with a bit of rain, and all the while driving there I spotted 'heat Lightning'
never did I hear Thunder...and no rain while driving there.

Dave Redden the race coordinator had just got there as I pulled into the Whitehall trails park, easy peasy packet pick-up! Since I was so early, I just sat in the car and enjoyed the sun finishing coming up....so breathtaking! There were a few rain sprinkles, but, I'm ready for them...and runners are gonna run regardless of the weather, well unless it's really storming out and we have a delay.
Then I'm getting texts from the Kid...she was up but still getting her 'business' taken care of and would be headed for the race soon, Well guess what !?! She didn't give herself enough time for 'business'. She was on her way but said according to her GPS she wouldn't get there until 8:03am - the race starts ON Time at 8:00am. I told her it was entirely up to her if she wanted to start late or turn around. You guess it--turned around and did her 3.1 at home.

Anyway onto the race...

The 2nd Annual Independence Day 5K was held this morning Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 8:00am at White Hall Park in Richmond...Overall there were a lot of run/walkers out today in support those going through the search for a new kidney.

Mulligans Living Kidney Donors --- Charity Beneficiary

Mulligans Living Kidney Donors is a Volunteer 501(c)3 Organization located in Louisville, Kentucky that provides mentoring and support through the process of finding a living kidney donor for patients with end stage kidney failure. Speaking and attending events throughout the year to raise awareness of the need for living kidney donors.

Did you know one person dies every 22 minutes in the US waiting on a deceased kidney. We all have two and only need one. They've worked tirelessly to bring awareness to not only become an organ donor but in the case of a kidney, a healthy person can give another a kidney and live a totally normal, healthy life with no boundaries.

The charity was created for the sole purpose of helping people through the kidney transplant journey. Many shared stories of inspiration and ideas on how to get the word out that you need a living kidney donor!  They are a support/mentoring group that works together to raise awareness of the need for LIVING DONORS.

All proceeds raised from this event went toward grants that help donors to offset costs so that they are not “out-of-pocket” when donating a kidney.
