Hatfield and McCoy race morning

Our host hotel was 35 minutes away! Not that it’s that far away but still…Hannah got in around 10:30pm ate some spaghetti then laid down for what little bit of sleep she could get.

I met up with other Ky Team Beef runners for a quick picture before starting, as a Ambassador this race is on the approved races to get compensated for, and with registration at 100$ I’ll take some money back.

The first little bit was hairy because for whatever reason we were on the opposite side of the road, running with traffic instead of against…on a major highway.
At mile 2 I seen this sign and it gave me pause…did my watch charge all the up? Is my Shokz fully charged….

I only took these because it reminded me my the Kid…she Loves Pigs.

[pic from the Kid] You could check out the well, which of course curious Kid did…

This is the bit of History for the Hatfield and McCoy feud…

Residents and homes along the course was rather eclectic…though I knew it was further south than what I normally travel [that changes this year BTW] it was surprising to see the difference in houses along the course.

Until here the course was mainly flat’ish…this is where the Blackberry Mountain began.
Needless to say it was awful! A full MILE HIGH to the top, and the 2nd hill this year I was talking to God! It truly was the second hardest thing I’ve done.
This water stop was at the peak of Blackberry Mountain and they were so amazing!
All the water stops were good, but #7 had the first set of kids working…

I found a 50 State Half-Marathoner Lori Cooper, and she to was struggling.

OH YES IT WAS!!!
At this point is where I lost cell service and had to switch over to offline backup service for Spotify…I don’t know how I would have gotten through the last of the miles without the distraction.

Finally down the hill and stopped for a rest and more water stop food…Watermelon, Banana, Oranges, and Gatorade.

Took this because it’s pretty.

Several along the way had Miss Liberty in their yards…not sure the significance.

Just what I needed ! I’ve seen others post about this particular water stop and they had different characters representing the Haunted House. I for one could not imagine how Hot they were in the get-ups and makeup!

Supposedly once you see the unused train tracks you were “close” to the finish.

If I felt like I could have made up some time I for sure would have walked the trestle for better pictures.

Just a deserted “Bunker”

My sponsored mile marker…

The wall was WV line…

Standing on the bridge you were still in Kentucky…

Country Roads Take Me Home To The Place I Call Home…West Virginia!

Downtown Matewan Liberty…

Finisher’s medal…

EARNED…
NOT…
GIVEN!!!
So proud of these Girlies,

*****
My girls were TIRED, a much needed nap!

A unique display of “flowers”. It’s been an adventure, it’s been so much Fun, but I’m ready to go back to my Sweet Kentucky Home.
