Blog 365 ~ Dom and Dave 5K ReCap

Started the morning with hubby's oatmeal breakfast...Yum! Off to church as today was our Sunday to be greeters...this will be something he might be doing on his own soon as I plan on changing churches by the end of May, the hub's have more obligations to fulfill than I do so he will change much later, IF he wants.

**********

Today was race day! Yes, they're normally on Saturday {early:thirtyAM] mornings.

I missed last year's Inaugural Dom & Dave 5K so was excited to be a part of it this year....

So Much Support in Remembrance for the 2 boys...

Over 900 family, friends, and community members showed their love and support for our boys last year; and for that, we are forever grateful. In 2022 total raised was over $45,000 to go towards a scholarship fund in Dom & Dave honor.

2023 attendance numbers were down a bit with just over 500 crossing the finish line...that however didn't stop the sponsors & donations. Just over another 40,000$$ was raised ! If I haven't mentioned it before I'm so amazed at how Giving the Running community is. And yet another reason I do what I do volunteering my time to document them as they cross the finish line.

A Fun Run was added this year for kids 10 and under and prize opportunities for the fastest teams, seeing everyone again for a fantastic day of running and camaraderie is the perfect way to honor the lives Dom & Dave.

100% of the race proceeds will go to The Dominic Bilotta Memorial Foundation, Inc. which will be used to provide scholarship opportunities in the names of both Dominic and David.
Dom & Dave --- By our side with every stride!
Dominic Bilotta and David Cervoni were cross country runners for Lexington Catholic High School. They were both gifted athletes who loved the competition and camaraderie of running.
The boys’ warm smiles and kind hearts are greatly missed.

Blog 365 ~ Worried 😟 Wednesday

*** Names Changed to Protect...well Everyone ***

The clipart above shows how part of my weekend & week has went....My friend we'll call MJ was a victim of domestic violence last weekend. To the point that 911 was called by a family member. MJ tried to have them take him to the ER for evaluation But, the abuser [spouse] was taken to jail due to the fact he laid a hand on MJ. It wasn't a call I ever imagined I would get...but I went to her Of Course! I truly Love this friend like a Sister.

Sadly, the abusers out of state family, who MJ & 'he' haven't seen in over 2 years became Irate that 'he' was in jail. None of them have been around to see how troubled 'he has been and has needed medical help with what has been diagnosed as Dementia/Alzheimer's. And the violence has been somewhat escalating.

8am Tuesday:
Making sure all the EPO paperwork is in order, medical EPO filings, was a long drawn-out process, but they got done. The sheriff's from the jail called and suggest MJ NOT to bail 'he' out as 'he' was combative & disorderly to the point he was placed in the medical section of jail to protect other inmates and himself.

Around here you are only kept for 72 hrs and you go before the judge. Finally 'he' son came and along with a Uncle got 'he' out and was able to bring to neurologist appointment for evaluation....all of that took most of Tuesday morning....MJ is in charge of all their things, POA, finances, medical, etc.
In the waiting room, 'he' started to be a bit unruly, aggressive, and not sure where he was or who the people were with him...I wanted to cry. 'he' is my friend too.

We were immediately sent to the VA emergency entrance and that's when thing started to go really bad, 'he' was cursing, and begun being more hostile, and combative.

After a 'entry' evaluation 'he' was going to be checked out more thoroughly and went to another area. MJ was interviewed by the emergency PA, and we waited some more... I was completely fine with that...whatever it takes to help 'he', because this isn't the 'he' I know. Quite the opposite!

The attending Dr called MJ back and was explaining how 'he' was acting out and became so combative with the tech's,... THAT's when 'he' son and I see 2 security guards enter the ER area, and then a 3rd.

4pm Tuesday Afternoon:
'he' was admitted to the Psyc ward for evaluation....no one will be allowed to see him until they can get a good evaluation done, which isn't happening because of the aggressive behavior. Today we are told 'he' may need to be sedated in order to do any Scans, MRI's, etc.

MJ is more exhausted than I....but I know she can at the very least get better rest knowing 'he' is in good, capable hands, with the best medical team there is. And she is now Safer!

MJ and I are part of an Amazing group of Friends, and with a friend text thread WE have her covered at ALL times of the day or night..... other AZ friends coming next week, then we have friends from NY coming mid-May to help and keep MJ company.....

'Cause that's what Friends who are like Sisters Do!

Blog 365 ~ Late Night ~ Double Duty Day ~ and a Prom Shoot

The 'R'Jong Ladies got all Spiffed Up for Gal Pal Mac' daughter's wedding reception last night...
[ we clean up pretty good! ]

**********
It's Soo Early...and it's gonna be a long'ish day! First up I'm in Nicholasville for the Earth Day 5K.

Runners Laced up running shoes for the 3K run/walk and Kid's "Little Footprint" Dash as money was raise for the Jessamine County Food Pantry.  This race is presented by Nicholasville/Jessamine County Parks & Recreation in conjunction with my team RaceRise.  In addition to the race, a collection of non perishable food items for the Food Pantry was Welcomed...There was lots of family friendly Earth Day activities and displays to enjoy before and after the race. It's was a Fun Morning seeing the Kiddo's.

Today's race charity beneficiary was the Jessamine County Food Pantry. Partial race proceeds and 100% of donations will go to support their mission. Additionally, we collected non-perishable food items at the race to donate to those in need. The Jessamine County Food Pantry has been serving Jessamine County since 2004 by providing food to those who need it most. Priding themselves on having an easy and relatively quick food distribution process. If you would like to help, you can donate money HERE---> https://www.jcfoodpantry.org/, or if you have food to donate you can drop it off at our location, [found in the link], during any open hours or set up a separate time to drop off by calling phone number : (859)-312-4003.

Thanks in advance to those who made a donation. Every dollar counts and makes a difference to those in need!

Next up is ....
So, since this event was in the same general area, I hung out in Nicholasville until time for Packet Pick Up.... this event has more participates in it and I'll be a bit more busier....
This is the 2nd year [I missed last year] and looking forward to seeing everything.

Partial race proceeds and 100% of donations received will benefit the Primate Rescue Center based in Jessamine County. The Primate Rescue Center is nestled on 30 acres in central Kentucky, with buildings and grounds designed to afford the animals a quiet, sheltered place to spend the rest of their lives. The centerpiece of the sanctuary is a state-of-the-art chimpanzee enclosure—currently home to 8 chimpanzees—that was completed in the summer of 2006, since updated with climbing structures and other improvements designed for the chimpanzees’ enrichment and comfort. An enclosed tunnel allows the chimps to choose where they want to spend their time and move between the spacious outdoor enclosure and their temperature-controlled sleeping and playroom areas.

In addition, the PRC features 10 custom indoor/outdoor monkey enclosures with heated houses; the nearly 40 primates occupying these enclosures can also choose where they wish to spend their time, and, except in the most inclement weather, most venture outdoors for at least part of the day. Providing a well balanced and nutritious diet for so many apes and monkeys is a monumental task: on an average day, our staff, volunteers, and interns process 300 pounds of fresh vegetables, fruit, lettuce, nuts and grains and prepare the primates’ meals in our industrial kitchen. The mission of the Primate Rescue Center is to alleviate the suffering of primates wherever it occurs by:
Providing sanctuary or referral to appropriate facilities
Working to end the trade in primates both in the United States and abroad
Educating the public to the plight of primates caught in the breeder/dealer cycle
Assisting researchers and zoo personnel in finding appropriate placement for surplus primates
Encouraging compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and animal welfare statutes.

Our race had two presenting sponsors who provided bourbon and wine tasting following the race....Alas, I unfortunately was not able to hang around afterwards to enjoy libations. I did however buy a bottle of Town Branch ONLY because, well...
GROOT !!
He's my favorite.

THEN... back to Danville to take Prom pic's for my runner Gal Lori' son Grayson...
Love this Kid!!
I cannot believe he's so Grown UP!! He's active in Scouts, takes Many AP classes at school, plays Soccer for his school and on the regional 'Central Ky Storm Soccer Club' league.

It's been a Loong Day, and I've loved every minute of it. I love documenting via photos of races and events. Seeing the runners, giving them Hugs, Run Safe Wishes, high Fives....But receiving this message from one of my hiker Gal's  made My Day.

Time for Bed!!

blog 365 ~ Feline Friday

My PurrBoy Goober...Found in Walmart parking lot in summer of 2018. The poor thing didn't even have all his teeth yet! We took him to the vet and was told he needed to be bottle fed every 3 hours, and kept on a heating pad [on low] and IF he made it 30 hours he would have a fighting chance....as you can see he's bright eyed and a very healthy Boy!

-- As I see my age --

Looking in the mirror at the before me I seen wrinkles,
the now me sees them as laugh lines,

the before me saw age spots,
the now me sees freckles highlighted from being active,

the before me seen my hairline riddled with gray,
the now me sees the opportunity to wear Sparkle Skirts, and the newest headband/visor as a way to pull up the curly locks I still have,

the before me see the aging/crepe skin from batwings developing,
the now me sees the arch of toned muscle when I lift.....

the before me made many mistakes, raised hell, drank to much, made poor questionable choices, was married and divorced 2X, came close to financial ruin, was a single parent to my daughter,

the now me still makes a mistake or two, still raises hell, drinks occasionally, makes better choices, and is comfortable $$ wise,

the now me has an amazing Adult daughter and is still my baby girl,

the now me found love and is married to someone who has the same life goals,

the now me craves the structure of Faith, of organization, of schedules,

the now me is Mama Ruby to road athletes...Lots & LOTS of road athletes,

the now me have No regrets..None..Zilch..Nada from the before's,

the now me is looking forward to this #chapter68

You work hard,
You set goals, sometimes impossible goals,
You tune out the naysayers,
You have set backs, then learn from them,
You decide your "why",
You keep going no matter what,
TODAY IS THE DAY.....Happy Birthday Chapter #68
