10K away and My New Runner Kids...

Having children is a blessing, and I'm truly blessed with not only my own daughter (+ 2 others), I'm blessed to have acquired so many 'runner kids'. The hobby of running that Bobbie choose to start doing in 2009 has helped provide us to not just being together but with a way of connecting more as Mother and Daughter. Talking about - well - everything, life, work, marriage, the sport, friends, family, money, kids you name it we've talked/laughed/defended/owned it. Little did I know that her sport would benefit me in having more and more kids in my life. Let me show you my newest adoptive 'runner kids':
Sherry Peavler
Sherry started running early this year and if I went back through my folders I've most likely taken her picture at some point. I'm not sure how she and Bobbie know each other (other than running) but at the last race in Stanford she was included in the group photo. More about her in a later post.

Lisa Mattingly
Lisa! O~M~G she is a MESS!! {in a good way}. Lisa approached me several races ago talking about seeing me at all the races and who was I with, you know info in general. She is so funny and has an energy about her that doesn't seem to end.  Lisa's partner-Bob- is in the picture below. Bob is the Yin to Lisa' Yang - or Yang to Yin what've, all I know is that they're cute together.

Bob Griffin
The race was at RJ Corman and as always fun to be at. His facility and grounds are undoubting the best I've been to with the runners. They hosted a 5K as well and in the typical RJ Corman style everything went without a hitch. The runners knew where and how to go on the course and the after party again was typical RJ Corman, complete with Banana Ice Cream!! And yes even us non-runners were allowed in indulge. Check out my runner kids;
Back Row= Bob Griffin, Russell Woods, Jason Todd, Darin Cundiff
Middle Row= Lisa Mattingly, Sherry Peavler, Angela Todd, Rachel Cundiff
Front Row= Nitzi Stinnet, Kim Hamilton, and last but never least  My Baby~Bobbie Perkins

This is part of the Bluegrass Runners Group.

There will be more to report and I still want to touch based on more of the 'Not a Slacker' post you can read about it here!  Until later this chick is hitting the hay it's work day tomorrow!!

Time taken - not on my side!

I last posted [finally] that I wasn't a slacker, and really I'm not. I get side tracked sometimes, maybe I schedule to many activities at the same time, possibly get in some much needed OT at work which I always work [you do what ya gotta when your a broke you know what] or volunteer to help out taking pictures for one of the runner kids, but, that means you get
                                          far,
                                   far,
                                far,
behind with the blog stuff. I do stay on an 'even' status with the day to day stuff, most of the time. I have a system for getting laundry washed, dried, and folded, H2B though has to either go downstairs to retrieve his clothes or not. It really is that simple, get them and put them away or leave the clothes in piles on the table it don't matter to me. I have a rod hung up under the stairs that I hang my t-shirts on and since I down there so much I get what ever I'm going to wear on a daily basis, it works for me so don't judge!

One of the items that I posted before was the fact that a nephew had found me after 30+ years. At this point in time I still have yet to hear back from him about getting to know each other and hopefully meet up. I have sent another message to him on FB and have sent a email asking a few generic questions. He has two different jobs listed on his profile {FB} so I know he's most likely busy, busy, busy. From his picture there he favors my brother in stature and a little in his looks, but I do see his Momma in him as well. I'm not going to be discouraged - yet - and pray that he still wants to be a part of my family. I'll keep everyone posted!!  [posted get it? like in keeping this blog up to date posted!!]

     Something that I'm going to share here is the engagement photo that H2B had arranged to be taken. Have I told you yet how great he is and how spoiled I am? The picture thing was on my wedding list of things to do, and of course being the cheap ass that I am I was going to work on taking them myself, with the whole timer option thing and what ever!!! and then hope for the best. But instead we have the following;
I'm not a big fan of the antique look but for an engagement notice in the paper it will be perfect!! The sales rep was a friend of H2B's from 50 years ago - yeah we're old  - they played B'ball together when they were about 8 or 9. He was good at selling H2B on buying this or that package of pictures, {have I mentioned that I'm a cheap ass}??  We have the advertised 10X13 collage of pics and then added a 5X7 and 4 wallets for $25, and that was all! Bless his heart he did try but I had my budget set...period. It will be in the local paper in about 6 weeks can't wait!! I have picked up the few invites that we are sending out, my friend Dana has been a GOD send doing this stuff for me. She hand embossed a swirly thing on the invites as well as printed them too! I have the lights for the trees ready to deliver to her along with the table cloth she wants to use. The last thing to get to her will be the birdcage decoration thing that the MIL2B has made. With that said I will close for tonight, though this is suppose to be a "runner" blog this is also what I am.......

Not a Slacker!!

OK folks I know it's been like forever since my last post, and as always the fine line between life's balances still are a struggle. The bullets will give you all an outline of things -not in order- that have been going on, so that you know I haven't been a slacker,
  • a nephew has found me after 30+ years, (it's been about that long since I last seen him-Long story as to why too come) corresponding through FB at this point,
  • work, plus some OT, take it when I can,
  • engagement picture photo shoot for my friends Rhonda and Trinadad, sooo much fun and the pictures were good considering I do mainly 'action' sport photos,
  • the H2B and I had our own engagement pictures taken, this was a surprise for me, and now it's time to write up our announcement and get it to the paper,
  • finalized on the balance of the 'little things' that always sneaks up on you when planning a wedding, even a small one like we're having,
  • the ceiling guy finally made it (some our fault some his) to repair and patch all the ceilings in  order to paint before we get married,
  • my grand-son was Baptized, not that this took up a lot of time but it was exciting to be a part of and also witness,
  • took care of the grand-cats and the grand-dog while the kids were on vacation, this meant morning and night trips to their house, not that they live that far away from me but it's a new routine,
  • H2B had suit shopping on his list of things to do for the wedding, fun to say the least and can't wait to tell you about the socks,  freakin' hilarious,
  • Automate 30year anniversary photo shoot, this is where my SIL has worked for about 14 years,
  • we went to a local play at Pioneer Playhouse and took the MIL2B as well-such an historic and awesome place,
  • H2B has painted the ceilings-I supervised H2B calls it 'straw bossed' where ever that termed come from I have no clue, yes walls and trim will be painted too, bye bye ex-wife colors,
  • I did another photo shoot of my two oldest grand-daughters, really pleased with the pictures
  • wedding photographer for Rhonda & Trinidad-from mani's & pedi's to the cutting of the cake,
  • 1 golf scramble photo shoot benefiting Holly's House, oh yeah, I don't know squat about golf!
  • Six races, that's right "6"! Beef Festival 5K, Brass Band 5K, Capital City Stampede 10K, Twinkie Run 10K, Holly's House 5K, Firecracker 5K, and a partridge in a pear tree (you know you just sang that)
  • on top of all these things I've taken on providing pictures for Hope53 Ministries softball league. One of my runner kids-Ricky- is VP of this non-profit organization more about it later,
  • And let's not forget all the necessary day to day activities, you know laundry, meal prep, meal shopping, cleaning, etc. etc. etc.
So here it is in a nut shell---I 'm not a Slacker!!

I'm the MOM that's why...

I don't know about other Mom's out there but embarrassing our kids, whether it's intentional/planned or not, I feel it is our right as a parent, maybe even our duty...think about the times kids have caused a scene at the store when they haven't gotten their way?? Or the times they call the grand parents on you for what ever...you know what I'm talking about.
Bobbie started her running journey in 2009 and though I wasn't sure why she decided to become a runner, I'm the Mom proudly standing at the finish line waiting for her to come through, yelling for her to KICK IT your almost there, or screaming GO GO GO, or better yet ''WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING''-(when she got her first PI, I didn't know she fell).
I'm humbled and honored that she wants me there and can honestly say there haven't been many that I've missed. The Wilderness race series has started with the Shakertown 5K and it was there that I decided to look up and compare how 'my runner daughter' has changed in the past years... So this post is for My Baby...you are my One True Accomplishment in Life, I don't think I embarrass you anymore with my antics, but I will at least get one of the I can't believe your doing this ''Looks''. Here are pictures from the Shakertown races the past few years with her awards.

Shakertown 5K 5/4/13

Let the season begin...again...with the Wilderness Series that is!  WoooWhooo here we go! First I want to post a picture of one of my runners...
Mark Morgan this is for you! Your first on my list, with the positive remarks you gave me after the race I couldn't resist. Thanks for taking the time to read this blog, your humor and wit is awesome and you simply amaze me with your dedication to the sport of running ..

Speaking of humor just look at my young'un...I didn't know what the heck she was doing....keep in mind she's starting to be more like me every day...in the picture she's showing how she 'tested' the stretch of her shorts in order to carry a stuffed animal..oh yea I'm a proud Mom....

OK so the shorts are stretchy enough, I give all my kids their Good Luck hugs, kisses and be safe before I head down the path to find a spot for photo opportunities... The spot I wanted was occupied by resident geese, geesh they were LOUD and not happy about me wanting to stand near them...

they decided to waddle their butts back to the water and nest, huh...fine by me, I had runners getting ready to roll...

Jason Todd #425...smiling as always...

Ricky Lane #446...in his zone eyes straight ahead..

Our own Ernst Crown-Weber #478...

Betty Lewis #475...her sister #479

Bobbie (my baby) #450 talking to Judy #432

Sheri Satterly in pink not sure what her number is...

Melinda Wofford #434 with her friend and new running buddy...

this is the first year that it didn't rain during the race...though it was in the forecast it stayed nice and dry for the runners...the gift of this rainbow proves just how great life is...

sometimes it's not good for me to be alone waiting for my runner kids and the rest of the runners to finish, I tend to talk to whoever is there but mainly I get into stuff, the awards were already set up but here I am moving stuff around looking for one particular age group...you already know it's my young'uns...I swear it's the only one I picked up and took this picture...And She Won 1st in her age group....

well apparently my baby didn't like her run...doesn't she realize I've already taken a picture of her award...

here are a few of my kids...and they ALL received awards...Woot Woot!!

Well Blog land here it is, May starts the season and is one of the busiest with all my runners, stay tuned for other posts from races in the meantime follow Danville Bike and Footwear on face book here:https://www.facebook.com/DBFKY?fref=ts or go to their website and look around a bit here:http://www.dbfky.com/. Trust me you won't be sorry,

Derby Half Re-Cap!!

As promised here's a re-cap of the Derby Half Marathon that some of my runner kids competed in. Of course the day starts EARLY...Like getting up at 3:30 in the AM early. We live close to Louisville so we saved the money from getting a hotel room and drove up the morning of the race. It was a short ride for me...LOL I slept for part of the drive. Working so much during the week had caught up with me on top of working late the night before the race.
I went prepared for rain, I had my book, some water and snacks, and a blanket for warmth this Momma was ready!! Guess what? Didn't use anything in my stash. Katrina went along with Sheri so we hung out together while the kids ran....a nice surprise for me. We arrived at the Galt House to meet up with as many of the runners as we could, after of course pictures, we headed to the start line. Even though I'm pretty good about spotting Bobbie during races I found myself studying her attire, I was getting her picture if it was the last thing I did! (the race was sold Out!)
Admittedly I was apprehensive about the race. Not long ago as the nation watched Boston Marathon runners crossing the finish line only to witness explosions, Yes People, Bombs were set off near the finish line of the race.
As a Mom to not only a daughter and SIL that runs but also a 'runner Mom' too many other runners, was shocked and appalled to say the least. My mind went all over the place with the Why's. Why did someone need to do such a thing? Why are there people in this world that could do this?
What a lot of people don't know is that the Derby Marathon is one of the races that is a qualifier for Boston...and my runner kids were doing the half that shares the same finish line.
I already knew that 1 'bomber' was killed and the other had already been captured but that didn't stop me from saying yet again a prayer for not just my awesome group of kids, but for every one competing. I caught myself tearing up as I seen all the security around, thanking them as I stood at crosswalks watching all of the runners pass by. Katrina and I went and found a coffee shop then went to the 12 mile mark to wait for the kids to pass through and of course get more pictures, we already had a 'finish' point for after the race to meet up before heading home. I was able to see all my kids after they finished to again give them hugs and kisses for yet another race well done, and safe trips back home....please enjoy photos of my kids!

meeting up at the Galt House
