~~ Bad, Bad Blogger ~~

Hi, my name is A Runners Mom its been 3 months and too many days since my last post [hanging head in shame]. It's obvious that I need to enter a support group for Bad Bloggers. Soooo much has gone on since my last post and though there are a lot of reasons why, they all sound like excuses. I really need to do some catching up posts, but for now I want to just start fresh with today. Let me start by saying I was suppose to have several weeks off from the running photography stuff.
Well that didn't happen!
Leave it to my young'un to get back in the swing of things with not only running yet again on her wedding {Jan 1st} anniversary with her Hubby, but to also start competing in races. I didn't go with them on the anniversary run, since the kids eloped 13 yrs ago and I wasn't there then {and I'm OK with that} I decided that's their day and good ole Mom is sleeping in and doing NOTHING!! I did however go with her to the Resolution 5K Run and she started the Rockcastle Series with a race in Brodhead, enjoy some of the pictures of ''my'' runner kids from the race.

Bobbie & Gerard before the race. At least it was a good day we had been having Polar Vortex cold weather during January so this was a welcome surprise.

Harper Smith

one of our running Preacher's - Brother Stillman

Morgan Bottoms - I'm not sure he would have ran had the weather been colder.

Here's my SIL, isn't he cute!

my young'un Bobbie, sun in her face and looking determined

Midsummer Night 5K

Bobbie and her hubby Gerard before the race.
I'm blessed to have him in the family.

Who else can find their kids
among 4,437 runners...
Yep that would be me!!

Gerard--all focused during the run,
he finished with a course time of 26:49
not to shabby for working all day then
running in the heat and humidity.

and of course my Baby!!  Go Bobbie!!
She had a course time of 29:27 not bad
considering she ran this AM in another 5K...

Bobbie - her first 5K of the day winning in her
age group with a time of 28:51.

Over view of the Midsummers night race course.

Triangle Park fountain, this is (maybe) 'about' a third of the way during the race. The kids and I decided a few years ago that this would be our meet up point after the race, with all the runners and families trying to find each other it's just more practical to meet here. And this is where I've met some Awesome people...but not like this couple below..Ivor and June.

Originally from England but now living in Canada. Meet June and Ivor Lynch. They were in Lexington for a Cake decorating show/forum/event. June approached me as I was getting my game plan in my head ready for the start of the race and says 'you look like your with the press and know what's going on. Well I'm not 'with' the press but I'll try and help if I can...and so it began!! In the short time I was able to converse with them the more we knew about each other. If you have a chance check out their web site here.

As always it's been fun with each run and can't wait for the next adventure!!

Derby Half Re-Cap!!

As promised here's a re-cap of the Derby Half Marathon that some of my runner kids competed in. Of course the day starts EARLY...Like getting up at 3:30 in the AM early. We live close to Louisville so we saved the money from getting a hotel room and drove up the morning of the race. It was a short ride for me...LOL I slept for part of the drive. Working so much during the week had caught up with me on top of working late the night before the race.
I went prepared for rain, I had my book, some water and snacks, and a blanket for warmth this Momma was ready!! Guess what? Didn't use anything in my stash. Katrina went along with Sheri so we hung out together while the kids ran....a nice surprise for me. We arrived at the Galt House to meet up with as many of the runners as we could, after of course pictures, we headed to the start line. Even though I'm pretty good about spotting Bobbie during races I found myself studying her attire, I was getting her picture if it was the last thing I did! (the race was sold Out!)
Admittedly I was apprehensive about the race. Not long ago as the nation watched Boston Marathon runners crossing the finish line only to witness explosions, Yes People, Bombs were set off near the finish line of the race.
As a Mom to not only a daughter and SIL that runs but also a 'runner Mom' too many other runners, was shocked and appalled to say the least. My mind went all over the place with the Why's. Why did someone need to do such a thing? Why are there people in this world that could do this?
What a lot of people don't know is that the Derby Marathon is one of the races that is a qualifier for Boston...and my runner kids were doing the half that shares the same finish line.
I already knew that 1 'bomber' was killed and the other had already been captured but that didn't stop me from saying yet again a prayer for not just my awesome group of kids, but for every one competing. I caught myself tearing up as I seen all the security around, thanking them as I stood at crosswalks watching all of the runners pass by. Katrina and I went and found a coffee shop then went to the 12 mile mark to wait for the kids to pass through and of course get more pictures, we already had a 'finish' point for after the race to meet up before heading home. I was able to see all my kids after they finished to again give them hugs and kisses for yet another race well done, and safe trips back home....please enjoy photos of my kids!

meeting up at the Galt House

Run the Bluegrass~Momawrazzi view

Rising early again on a Saturday morning doing a gear check of the camera equipment, this time including a blanket, book, lemon water and snack of homemade trail mix. It's 'Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon' day.  It's exciting for me since this is the first Half my SIL will be competing in. Unfortunately he hurt his knee last week during one of the training runs, but says that it's a lot better and is running anyway.
Most of the drive there was foggy, and still so foggy that they delayed the race 15 min since they run on Old Frankfort Pike road, safety first!  During the delay mayor Jim Gray of Lexington announced that there were 4000 runner/walkers registered for the race,
representing 43 states and 6 foreign countries....
how cool is that!!

The delay also worked out well for me so that I could find a good spot for pictures, I love, love, love the excitement of all the runners in anticipation of the race starting. I enjoy the way everyone interacts with each other sharing their concerns about the course, checking out who is in what corral, listening to the pep talks,
did I mention that there were 4000 runners!!

Of Course we need a group photo,

Kim competed in the 7 mile run...

Jason as always still with a smile on his face...

David, not so much fun for him...

David Baker on point with his focus...

Jeremy enjoying the cheer section...

Twila conquered the hills again this year...

My 'SIL' killer hills for his first Half...

Jeremy goes back to finish with his wife Crystal,
she has done so well getting back on her ...

David good form at the finish...

Ricky finishing strong...

Bobbie (my baby) in the pink with Kelli in the yellow,
they have been friends forever,

Carmen she is so awesome...

Rebekah one of Bobbie' friends from school,
this is her first BIG race since having her baby last year...

The races are always a fun time for me. I love being with the kids and talking to other people that are  followers of runners.
The camaraderie between the runners the friendships they develop will last them for a lifetime.

Run the Bluegrass~The Mom Post!

Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon known as one of the prettiest half around (and one of the hilliest), this year there were 4000 runner/walkers from 43 states ~WOW~ and 6 foreign countries!
Remember when I found my own at the Shamrock shuffle, a measly 2000 or so runners? So what's 2000 extra. That's right this runner mom finds her own even in a crowd of 4000, I'm just awesome like that, LOL!! I do Love my Baby Girl and SIL~Gerard.

Bobbie in pink

Gerard getting ready to hand off his red jacket, told him he wouldn't need it...LOL

Here we are before the race,
Earlier this year he told me that he Loved me and liked me too. That probably doesn't sound like much to all of you but for this Mom it was the best thing he could have told me. You see I always knew he Loved me, (I Love him more). But I have this thing....I love a lot of people but some I truly Do Not like! This is a phrase that Bobbie has grown up with (and understands) as well as the grandkids, it makes since to us.
As I said with my first post Gerard hurt his knee during one of their training runs and even though he had taken it easy till race day it was still bothering him. This was his first half marathon so I'm explaining to him its an automatic PR, trying my best to convince him to not push yourself and risk injuring your knee....in one ear and out the other....He's soooo competitive! That didn't stop me from doing the mom worry.....dang kids!! I was so relieved when I seen those white gloves coming down towards the finish line, and so PROUD! That's not just my daughter's husband, not just my SIL and I truely Like him and Love him.

With my heart beating,
and a tear in my eye,
I'm the proud 'mom' to this Boy!
