Good Friday Service

MC for tonight's He is Risen service Rev. Phillip Johnson

The Seven Last Words of Jesus, recorded in the Gospels, are seven different sayings Jesus uttered while on the cross. They are: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do," "Truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise," "Woman, behold, your son! Behold, your mother," "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" "I thirst," "It is finished," and "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit."

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Deacon Welch...

1. "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do"

(Luke 23:34): Jesus shows compassion and forgiveness for those who crucified him, recognizing their ignorance and error.

2. "Truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise"

(Luke 23:43): Jesus speaks to a fellow criminal who is also crucified, promising him a place in Paradise.

Deacon Smith

3. "Woman, behold, your son! … Behold, your mother!"

(John 19:26-27): Jesus, from the cross, entrusts his mother Mary to John the Apostle and John to Mary.

4. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

(Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34): Jesus quotes Psalm 22, expressing a sense of abandonment and suffering as he carries the weight of humanity's sins.

5. "I thirst"

(John 19:28): This statement highlights Jesus' physical suffering and is fulfilled by the Roman soldier who offers him wine mixed with water.

Johnny Lofton

6. "It is finished"

(John 19:30): This word signifies the completion of Jesus' mission, the fulfillment of prophecy, and the offering of his life as a sacrifice for the salvation of humanity.

Deacon Ball

7. "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit"

(Luke 23:46): Jesus, with his last breath, entrusts his soul to God the Father.

An amazing time [as always] with our First Baptist Church family - they always do a "Glo" hunt so refreshments were served while Easter eggs were hidden for the littles..

Work day for me tomorrow for Brandon True Memorial 5K, headed home to prep.
