Happy 4th of July...almost LOL. Started this Saturday morning so much earlier than normal for a race. Getting up at 4:15 am just really hurt my soul, oh, and confused my Purr Boys.
Independence Day 5K was a 'New' race that benefitted Mulligans Living Kidney Donors.
About Mulligans Living Kidney Donors: they are a Volunteer 501(c)3 Organization located in Louisville, Kentucky that provides mentoring and support through the process of finding a living kidney donor for patients with end stage kidney failure. They speak and attend events throughout the year to raise awareness of the need for living kidney donors. (One person dies every 22 minutes in the US waiting on a deceased kidney.) We all have two and only need one. They work tirelessly to bring awareness to not only become an organ donor but in the case of a kidney, a healthy person can give another a kidney and live a totally normal, healthy life with no boundaries.
The charity was created for the sole purpose of helping people through the kidney transplant journey. Sharing stories of inspiration and ideas on how to get the word out that you need a living kidney donor! They are a support/mentoring group that works together to raise awareness of the need for LIVING DONORS.
All proceeds raised from the event will go toward grants that help donors to offset costs (food, lodging, gas, etc.) so that they are not “out-of-pocket” when donating a kidney.
I attempted to walk/run my virtual option for this race, but, Shewee...,it was Hot and I only managed to get 2 miles...guess some better than none.
